According to the women's wear daily, American designer Tom Ford was elected chairman of the American Fashion Designers Association (CFDA) in March 19th.

The appointment was approved by the CFDA board at the meeting on Tuesday, and Tom Ford will be the Eleventh CFDA chairman.

Tom Ford was originally supposed to take office in January 2020, but CFDA decided to advance the date, so Tom Ford will take office in June 2019.

The chairman of the current association, Diane von Furstenberg, has been president of CFDA since 2006. She has worked in this position for 13 years, and won the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.

The CFDA board has 19 members, including American designers Stan Herman, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang.

It is understood that although the board of directors elected the new chairman, the focus of the conference is actually the upcoming CFDA Fashion Awards.

According to the women's wear daily, Lisa Smilor, executive vice president of CFDA, wrote to an e-mail to CFDA members. "The rich experience and knowledge of Tom Ford is valuable to CFDA and its members, and helps us achieve our goals. That is to make American designers become more famous and have more opportunities in the world."

Today, CFDA has more than 500 members, including women's wear, men's wear and jewelry designers.

After being elected the new chairman of CFDA, Tom Ford told Vogue magazine that she accepted the position of chairman because of her sense of responsibility.

"I have been in this industry for 35 years.

My design career started in New York, and the Seventh Avenue taught me how to do business so that I could succeed.

Although I have been in Europe for 30 years, I always feel that as a designer, I have closer ties with the United States.

"I regard myself as an international designer, thinking in an international way, but I am surprised that we do not care about the outside world.

Not just CFDA, but the entire US under the present government.

We erect a high wall, the real literal wall, isolating ourselves. "

Tom Ford said that the future of American fashion should not only include the United States and should be global. This means that people who work in the American fashion industry do not necessarily need to be Americans, and they should consider their brands and series through a global perspective.

In recent years, the influence of CFDA and New York fashion week is declining and the loss of brand is serious. SWAROVSKI, who has sponsored CFDA Fashion Awards for 17 years, announced in early March that it would no longer support the New Designer Award and the positive change award.

Tom Ford is clearly placed high hopes in the changing fashion industry in the US.
